China imported 18.63 million mt of coal in September, down 18.6% year on year and down 8.9% from August, according to state media reports Friday citing Chinese customs data.
In the first nine months of this year, China imported 203 million mt of coal, up 36.3% year on year, according to a report by China Energy News which did not provide a breakdown of thermal and coking coal.
Meanwhile, China exported 530,000 mt of coal in September, down 56.2% year on year and down 18.5% from August, Platts reported earlier citing customs data. In the first nine months of 2012, China exported 7.45 million mt of coal, down 38.6% year on year.
