Shell Canada has begun maintenance on a unit serving its Scotford chemical facility in Alberta, the company said in a public notice Friday.
"We are bringing a unit offline for planned maintenance and there will be intermittent flaring for the next 48 hours," Shell reported on the Edmonton community update line at 9 a.m. MDT (1500 GMT). It did not provide additional detail, other than to say the work is not expected to effect production.
Shell Canada produces 450,000 mt/year each of styrene monomer and mono-ethylene glycol at its joint chemicals/crude oil refinery complex.
