US over-the-counter thermal coal prices were little changed on Monday, as November natural gas and crude futures settled near Friday's closing price.
The NYMEX November gas futures contract settled 0.7 cent higher to $3.403/MMBtu and NYMEX crude futures fell 55 cents to $89.33/barrel.
Barged Central Appalachian thermal coal prices were assessed flat to 20 cents higher in the session.
First-quarter 2013 traded at $60.40/st and $60.30/st, each for five barges. The strip was heard to have also traded at $60.50/st for five barges early in the session. The contract was assessed at $60.40/st, up 5 cents.
Q2 2013 traded at $62.90/st and at $63/st, each for five barges. The contract traded at $63/st on Friday. The price was assessed unchanged at $63/st.
Q4 2013 was heard to have traded at $68.10/st for five barges, while Calendar 2014 traded at $71/st for five barges.
Rail-delivered (CSX) CAPP coal prices were relatively mixed with the front months posting small gains, while some declines were seen along the 2013 curve.
CSX financial December traded at $63/st, at $63.05/st, at $63.10/st, at $63.15/st, and at $63.25/st, each for 5,000 st. Platts assessed the physical price at $63/st, up 25 cents.
CSX financial Q1 2013 was heard to have traded at $64/st and at $64.15/st, each for 5,000 st. The price was assessed at $61.15/st, up 25 cents/st.
CSX financial Q2 2013 traded at $65.90/st, at $65.80/st, and at $65.75/st, each for 5,000 st. The physical price was assessed 10 cents/st lower to $65.75/st.
CSX financial Q3 2013 traded at $68/st for 5,000 st. The price was assessed at $68/st, up 5 cents.
CSX financial Cal 2013 was heard to have traded at $67/st for 5,000 st.
In the West, PRB 8,800 physical November traded at $8.15/st for one train. The market was subsequently framed lower and the price was assessed at $7.95/st, down 20 cents.

US Gulf Coast Eastern-origin (6,000 kcal/kg NAR 3% sulfur) was assessed 50 cents lower to $54.25/mt, as offers were taken lower, according to broker information.
US East Coast CAPP-origin (6,500 kcal/kg NAR 1% sulfur) was assessed 25 cents higher to $92.50/mt.
US Gulf Coast Western-origin (5,000 kcal/kg GAR 0.5% sulfur) was assessed at $40.50/mt, unchanged, and FOB Canada/US West Coast Western-origin (5,000 kcal/kg GAR 0.5% sulfur) was assessed at $61/mt, unchanged.
