Germany's BASF has increased its global capacity of polytetramethylene ether glycol to 250,000 mt/year from 185,000 mt/year, the company announced Monday.
BASF has PTMEG plants at Geismar, Louisiana in the US; Ludwigshafen, Germany; Ulsan, South Korea; and Caojing, China.
PTMEG is primarily used to make elastic spandex fibers for a large variety of textiles used to make underwear, outerwear, sportswear and swimsuits. It also serves as a chemical building block for thermoplastic polyurethanes used to make hoses, films and cable sheathing.
