China Shenhua Energy Co., the listed subsidiary of China Shenhua Group, Wednesday posted a 9.1% year-on-year rise in July commercial coal production to 25.2 million mt.
Over January-July, it produced 181 million mt of coal, up 10.7% from a year earlier, the company said in a statement.
Shenhua Energy said it sold 31.6 million mt of coal in July, down 1.6% year on year. Exports comprised 200,000 mt of the total, down 50% over the same period.
Over the first seven months of 2012, Shenhua Energy sold 253.7 million mt of coal, up 13.6% year on year. Exports comprised 2.4 million mt of the total, down 33.3% over the same period.
The company said it imported 1.3 million mt of coal in July and a total 3.6 million mt over January-July. It did not import any coal over January-July 2011.
It did not provide a breakdown between thermal coal and coking coal.
The company has a coking coal mining capacity of around 20 million mt/year, mainly from Shenhua Group subsidiaries Shenhua Wuhai Energy Co. in Inner Mongolia and Shenhua Ningxia Coal Mining Group in Ningxia. Its thermal coal mining capacity is not clear.
Shenhua Energy also generated 18.89 billion kWh of electricity in July, up 10.8% year on year, and 121.62 billion kWh over January-July, up 14.7% from a year earlier.
