Natural gas production from Pennsylvania's Marcellus Shale for the first half of this year jumped 82% over the same period last year, according to updated figures released Tuesday by the state's Department of Environmental Protection.
Producers in Pennsylvania reported output of 4.36 Bcf/d in the first half of this year compared with 2.4 Bcf/d in the first half of 2011, DEP data showed.
Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy reported a 133% increase in production during the first half to 1.03 Bcf/d compared with 444,969 Mcf/d in the year-ago period.
Chesapeake accounted for 24% of the state's unconventional gas production in the first half of the year, according to DEP data.
The DEP's first release of production figures Friday was missing Chesapeake's numbers because of what the agency and company described as a technical glitch.
According to DEP spokesman Kevin Sunday, the production database is still missing numbers from roughly 50 wells drilled by smaller operators.
Although the deadline for reporting production figures for the first half of the year was Friday, there is no penalty for failing to report.
