CME Group said Thursday that daily trading volume for its Brent crude oil futures contract reached a record high on Wednesday.
Brent Crude Oil Last Day Financial Futures trading volumes jumped to 21,997 contracts, close to a 71% increase over the previous record of 12,893 set on June 7, and a nearly 300% increase over the average daily volume of 5,645 contracts in June 2012.
Kendal Vroman, senior managing director of commodities and information products and services at CME Group, said in a statement that the exchange has seen strong, consistent growth in its Brent futures and options contracts so far this year.
