Ukraine's June production of polystyrene increased by 25% on the year-ago month to 2,038 mt, up from 1,630 mt, the state statistics committee reported Monday.
Output of polystyrene rose 5.9% in comparison with May, when the country produced 1,925 mt of the commodity.
Ukraine's output of the commodity in the first six months fell 6.4% year-on-year to 8,408 mt, down from 8,982 mt produced in the corresponding period last year.
Polystyrene is used in production of plastic goods and packaging, but also in food industry, medicine, machinery and other sectors of the economy.
The Horlivka-based Stirol, Ukraine's major chemical company and its only producer of polystyrene, has an annual capacity to produce about 50,000 mt of the commodity. The company is exporting most of the output.
Ukraine produced 20,675 mt of polystyrene in 2011, up 24.5% from 16,607 mt the year before.
