EU June chemical ex-works prices fall 1.2% from May: Eurostat

EU chemical producer prices In June were 1.2% lower than in May, marking the first decline in six months amid falling energy and feedstock costs, gross data from statistics agency Eurostat showed Thursday.

Compared with the same month last year, domestic ex-works sales prices rose 1.6%, the weakest rate of annual inflation in 29 months.

Within eurozone countries, chemical prices also fell 1.2% compared with May and were 1.7% higher compared with June 2011.

EU energy prices decreased by 2.6% from May, including a 5.1% drop in oil product costs, but were 3.0% higher than a year earlier.

Factory-gate prices for base chemicals were 1.9% weaker month-on-month, including a 4.2% decline for organic base chemicals prices, a 2.1% decrease for plastics in primary forms and a 0.5% rise for inorganic base chemicals.
