Indonesia exported 1.65 million mt of liquefied natural gas in June, up 15.8% year on year and up 4.1% from May, according to data released Friday by the Central Bank of Indonesia.

The value of LNG exports was $1.10 billion in June, up 15.4% from the previous year and up 4.7% from May.

The monthly average LNG export price was $665.73/mt ($12.80/MMBtu) in June, down a marginal 0.3% from June 2011, but up 0.6% from May.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's exports of pipeline natural gas in June gained 3.4% from the same month last year to 849 million cubic meters, but were down 3.7% from May.

The value of pipeline gas exports was $433 million in June, up 3.5% year on year, but down 13.3% from May. The average price paid was $14.07/MMBtu, little changed from $14.05/MMBtu last year but down 10% from May.

Indonesia exports pipeline gas to only Singapore, which currently stands at about 1 Bcf/d.

The domestic versus export tussle over gas allocation in Indonesia has been in the spotlight in recent years due to increasing domestic gas demand. Indonesia's Vice Energy and Mines Minister Rudi Rubiandini said Tuesday that the Indonesian government was unlikely to impose a moratorium on gas exports as the country was expected to have more than enough resources to meet both domestic and overseas demand, Platts reported earlier.

"Based on our calculations, the current gas shortage is only about 120,000 Mcf/d. Meanwhile our total LNG and natural gas export is 3.8 Bcf/d, or 56% of our gas production. It is impossible to halt [all that export] to meet a domestic gas shortfall of only 120,000 Mcf/d," Rubiandini said, adding that in future, Indonesia can rely on natural gas resources in new blocks to meet domestic demand as well as export commitments.
