Mexico's state enegy company Pemex restarted its Swing LLDPE and HDPE plant on Sunday, a source at the company said Tuesday.
Pemex's Swing plant, located in Morelos state, went on a planned maintenance shutdown on June 24, and the original plan was to have the plant back on line around July 5.
The delay in the start-up was caused by the strong rain that destroyed railroad bridges in the state of Oaxaca, impeding polyethylene delivery.
"Because of a contingency in logistics, we delayed the start-up of the Swing plant 10 days. At the moment all the bridges in Oaxaca are fixed, and we don't see any kind of PE delivery problems anymore," the source added.
The Swing HDPE and LLDPE plant has the nameplate capacity of 300,000 mt/year.
Upstream, due to the same problem, Pemex reduced the ethylene cracker rates in Morelos and Cangrejera by 10% to 80%, and was going to export the ethylene surplus to Europe this week.
The quantity of the ethylene export to Europe was 4,000 mt at a price of $900/mt FOB.
