Cromwell Polythene helps SMEs to bag waste savings
What Cromwell calls the 'Knapsack' system sees polythene sacks supplied by the company and placed in a rigid metal frame which is located near to where the waste material is generated.

Following a free waste audit, which sees Cromwell calculate the likely volumes of packaging material generated, a collection frequency is agreed, providing a regular and secure disposal route through an accredited re-processor.

Waste transfer notes and compliance certificates are provided and the company pays the value of the waste based on weight and type of material.

Garth Imison, managing director of Cromwell Polythene, said: “There are many SMEs, who, for a variety of reasons, are wasting money by failing to segregate their waste and comply with the duty of care provisions of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the pre-treatment of waste legislation.

“The Knapsack system makes it easy for them to recover potentially valuable plastics and card from the waste stream that we are willing to pay for as part of our ‘closed loop’ sustainability strategy," he added.

Imison said this enabled companies to meet their environmental obligations, “and immediately converts their waste into a precious raw material that can be used in the manufacture of new polythene bags”.
