The US oil rig count rose by 28 to set yet another record high of 1,414 in the week ending Friday, Baker Hughes said in its weekly report.
The US natural gas rig count plunged by 23 to a new low of 565. There were five miscellaneous rigs, down one from the week before, according to Baker Hughes data.
The US oil and natural gas rotary rig count for the week rose by four from last week to 1,984, which was up 129 from 1,855 in the same week a year earlier.
Canada's rig count rose by 74 week on week to 230, but that total is down two from 232 in the same week a year ago. Canada's oil rig count was 179, up 63 from the week before, and gas rigs there totaled 51, up 11.
