Bangkok Synthetics and Japan's JSR will build a joint venture solution polymerization styrene-butadiene rubber plant at Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong province, Thailand, by mid-2013, BST said Tuesday.
The S-SBR plant, the first of its kind in Thailand, will have a design capacity of 50,000-100,000 mt/year and is expected to start operations in June 2013, BST added. S-SBR is used mainly in making tires and in industrial applications.
JSR will hold a 51% stake in the joint venture plant while BST will own 49%.
Currently, BST is also building a 110,000 mt/year nitrile latex plant at Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, which it expects to be operational in the third quarter of 2012.
