He was then conducted on a tour of Baerlocher’s plant, which produces around 6,000 tonnes of blended material annually, before being presented with a copy of the British Plastics Federation’s new discussion document, The UK Plastics Industry: A Strategic Manufacturing Sector.
Jones said he believed it important to get the company’s Parliamentary representative into the factory to appreciate its role in the local community.
“We want MPs in Westminster to take both the UK plastics industry and what we do here in Bury seriously.
“As a sector we contribute a lot to the UK economy and it would be good to get some recognition for that,” he added.
Dobbin, a former micro-biologist in the NHS, promised to do whatever he could to get Baerlocher’s message across to the relevant ministers in London.
“Visits like this illustrate clearly the sort of manufacturing activity that is taking place on my patch,” he said.
