Brazil's Braskem will be very short in HDPE injection in May for the export market, similar to the situation in April, a company source said Tuesday.
There will be HDPE injection offers to Ecuador, Peru and Colombia, "but in very limited availability for next month again," the source said.
During April, Braskem HDPE injection offers were heard at $1,650/mt CFR.
"We had many plants shut down in the end of last year and we could not manage to build inventories to attend the export side, because the Brazilian domestic market has been very heated since then," the source added.
Two buyers in Peru said Braskem had made no HDPE injection offers to them in April.
"Due to the Brazilian situation, we should try some HDPE injection deals with the US because their prices are competitive again against the Asian ones," said a buyer in Peru.
April US HDPE injection to Peru was heard at $1,620/mt CFR with possible bids at $1,570/mt CFR.
According to the Braskem source, the company does not expect to be short in HDPE blow molding offers and HDPE film for export next month.
