Spectra Energy on Friday unveiled plans for a new 1.25 Bcf/day natural gas pipeline that would move supplies from the Marcellus Shale play to customers in the southeastern US starting in late 2015.
The 230-mile Renaissance Gas Transmission project will run from an existing interconnection with Spectra's Texas Eastern Transmission pipeline in Columbia County, Tennessee, through Alabama and northern Georgia to an interconnect with Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line near Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Also, Texas Eastern would offer additional supply options for Renaissance shippers from the Gulf Coast, Fayetteville, Haynesville, Woodford, Barnett and Eagle Ford shales, Spectra said.
The $1-billion proposal, although primarily a greenfield project, would follow existing rights-of-way, the company said.
Spectra said the pipeline would feed growing demand from power generators in Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee.
AGL Resources has signed a non-binding letter of intent to explore a joint business arrangement and transportation service options for its local distribution companies that operate near the proposed pipeline.
Spectra launched a non-binding open season for the Renaissance project Friday that runs through March 30.
