Asian polyethylene offers to Brazil climbed $20-$50/mt over last week, a Brazilian trader said Friday.
"Due to the Carnival holiday in Brazil, the import market was totally slow this week," the trader said. "We heard Braskem announced a jump of Reals 250/mt in polyethylene offers for the domestic market which could help us have a healthy import market next week."
Even with the recent hikes, Asia was still the yardstick for the import side in the South American market because US was offering resin to Latin America with the prices at $50-$200/mt more expensive than the Asian ones.
Asian HDPE film to Brazil rise $20-$30/mt and the offer from Saudi Arabia was heard at $1,600/mt CFR, from Taiwan at $1,610/mt CFR and from Thailand at $1,630/mt CFR with some bids at $1,570/mt CFR.
Some LDPE film offers from Asia to Brazil were up $50/mt related to last week, reaching levels of $1,630/mt CFR from Thailand and at $1,680/mt CFR from Malaysia. Turkey was offering LDPE to South America at $1,680/mt CFR. Saudi Arabia was still offering at $1,580/mt CFR.
One bid was heard today in the Brazilian market at $1,550/mt CFR for LDPE film. Asia was offering LLDPE butene to Brazil with an increase in prices of $30-$40/mt compared to last week.
The LLDPE butene offer from Saudi Arabia to Brazil was at $1,500/mt CFR, from Thailand at $1,510/mt CFR and from Korea at $1,530/mt CFR. US offers to South America for HDPE film were $100-$130/mt higher than the Asia ones at $1,700/mt CFR.
US LDPE offers were higher $50-$140/mt over the Asian offers at $1,725/mt CFR for film.
For LLDPE, the price difference was even bigger with the US offering at $1,700/mt CFR, a gap of $200/mt compared to the Asian ones.
