Styron Europe has raised its prices for all polystyrene and copolymer grades by Eur125-160/mt ($165-211/mt) effective immediately or as contracts allow, the company said in a statement Thursday.
Prices of Styron general purpose grade polystyrene will see a Eur140/mt increase, Styron and Styron A-Tech high impact grade polystyrene a Eur150/mt hike, Magnum acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene resin prices a Eur160/mt rise and a Eur125/mt increase for Tyril styrene-acrylonitrile resins.
The price increase was attributed to accelerating manufacturing costs for all PS and copolymer grades in Europe.
Styron is not the first PS producer to announce an increase in its PS contract prices. On Thursday, Styrolution announced a Eur145/mt hike in its GPPS prices, and raised the premium it charged for HIPS over GPPS by Eur10/mt from Eur120/mt to Eur130/mt, also citing surging raw material costs.
The Northwest Europe styrene monomer February contract price was also settled Thursday at Eur1,334/mt, an increase of Eur120/mt or 9.88% from January, between Styron and Total and Synthomer and Styrolution.
