Singapore-based plantation group GMG Global said late Monday that a strike by plantation workers at its Cameroon natural rubber subsidiary, Hevecam, has ended.
Workers returned to work on January 27, from a strike that began January 19 in support of more benefits. "The dispute with the plantation workers had been resolved and all plantation workers returned to work," GMG said.
Hevecam operates an industrial rubber plantation with a processing capacity of more than 50,000 mt/year on a 41,000 hectare site.
GMG owns 90% of Hevecam while the Cameroon government holds 10%.
The Singapore company makes more than 70,000 mt/year of rubber and accounts for about 60% of Cameroon's annual rubber exports.
