Bayport Polymers expects to start up its new polyethylene unit in the first quarter of 2022 and its new ethane cracker in early 2021, the company said in an email to S&P Global Platts.
The company had said in a February 2019 press release it expected the 625,000 mt/year high-density polyethylene plant -- which is under construction in Bayport, Texas -- to start up in 2021.
When asked about the change, Bayport Polymers President Diane Chamberlain declined comment, adding that the "current plan is Q1 2022."
Meanwhile, the 1 million mt/year ethane-fed cracker under construction in Port Arthur, Texas, "is scheduled to be completed in Q1 of 2021," spokesperson Amber Olah said in the email to Platts Dec. 3.
Bayport Polymers is a joint venture of Total and Borealis.
