Propylene contract prices for the Mexican domestic market were expected to be without any movement for next month over January, said a Pemex source.
"It's still a little early to affirm but we are not seeing any price movement for propylene in Mexico," added the source.
In January, polymer-grade propylene contract prices for the Mexican domestic market dropped 4% compared with December.
Polymer-grade propylene contract prices were heard at Pesos 16,687 ($1,194)/mt FOB.
Pemex is the only propylene producer in Mexico.
Chemical-grade propylene also saw a drop of 4% over December, reaching levels of Pesos 14,077 ($1,007)/mt FOB.
Downstream, despite the possible stability in the raw material prices, Mexican polypropylene producer Indelpro increased by 5 cents/lb ($110/mt) its offers to the domestic market.
After the hike, Indelpro was offering resin at 81 cents/lb CIF bagged for homo raffia and injection, 82 cents/lb CIF bagged for homo film and 85 cents/lb CIF bagged for co-polymer impact.
"The polypropylene offer price jump was more related to the hikes in polypropylene prices in the international market and the good demand in the Mexican market," said a company source.
According to the source, polypropylene demand in Mexico in January was 5% better than December.
US polypropylene offers to Mexico were heard around 68 cents/lb DAF Laredo bulk for homo and 71 cents/lb DAF Laredo for co-polymer.
