Rio de Janeiro-based power company Eneva SA is close to announcing the purchase of a cluster of onshore oil and natural gas fields located in the Amazon rainforest from state-controlled Petrobras, Brazilian newspaper O Globo reported on Monday.
Petroleo Brasileiro SA, as Petrobras is formally known, said it was putting the cluster up for sale in June. At the time it said the cluster was producing 106,353 barrels of oil equivalent per day, of which 16,500 barrels were oil, with the remainder being natural gas and natural gas liquids.
Neither Petrobras nor Eneva immediately responded to a request for comment.
Eneva is a diversified power company with assets ranging from natural gas fields to power plants.
Sao Paulo-listed preferred shares in Petrobras were up 4.1% in afternoon trade, while common shares in Eneva were up 4.9%. Brazil's benchmark Bovespa equities index was up 1%.
