First power was achieved Aug. 7 at the 731.5 MW Borssele 3, 4 offshore wind farm in the Dutch North Sea, project consortium Blauwwind said.

The first 9.5 MW turbine is now feeding electricity into the Dutch grid after grid operator Tennet completed the Borssele beta substation a month ahead of schedule, it said.
Some 36 of 77 turbines have been installed with one turbine planned to enter operation each day.

Completion for the 3 TWh/year project is expected in October.

The Blauwwind consortium includes Shell, Eneco, Partners Group, Van Oord and DGE.

"Keeping a project of this scale and complexity on track in these challenging times can only be managed through good collaboration and flexibility," project director Roeland Borsboom said.

Shell and Eneco have negotiated 15-year power purchase agreements for half the output from the project.

The two companies own the CrossWind consortium that in July won the concession to build the 750 MW Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind farm.

Meanwhile Orsted's 750 MW Borssele 1, 2 achieved first power in May, on track for an Oct. 5 start, the Danish utility said July 29.
