EDF Group has bought UK battery storage and electric vehicle charging specialist Pivot Power for an undisclosed sum, the French companysaid Monday.
Pivot Power plans to install around 2,000 MW of grid-connected batteries across 40 sites on major roads up and down the UK, with the first two sites at Kemsley (Kent) and Cowley (Oxford) due to be commissioned next year.
"Each of Pivot Power's projects has the potential to host a battery capable of exporting 50 MW of power and to provide support for hundreds of rapid EV chargers, potentially suitable for large retail sites, logistics centers, bus depots and park and rides," EDF said.
The company now becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of EDF Renewables, the French utility said.
"This acquisition contributes to EDF's target of being the leader in Europe with 10 GW of additional storage by 2035," it said.
It also supports the utility's electric mobility goal to be a leader in the field by 2022 in the UK, France, Italy and Belgium.
Beyond 2022, EDF Group aims to provide power for 600,000 electric vehicles via 75,000 charging points.
