Exelon Generation's 1,320-MW Braidwood-1 nuclear reactor in Braceville, Illinois, was operating at significantly reduced output Wednesday afternoon for maintenance, according to a company spokesman.

The unit was operating at 39% of capacity early Wednesday, down from 100% of capacity early Tuesday, according to daily reactor status reports from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Output was reduced to 22% beginning at about 9 pm CDT Tuesday (0200 GMT Wednesday) "to repair a water valve associated with steam generation on the non-nuclear side of the plant," Exelon's Brett Nauman said in an email.

"The unit will be returned to full power after repairs are completed and systems tested," Nauman said, without specifying when that is expected to take place.

The adjacent 1,295-MW Braidwood-2 reactor was operating at 100% of capacity early Wednesday, according to NRC's report.
