Crude steel production in April was up 6.4% year on year to 156.7 million mt in the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association, it said.
China's crude steel production increased 12.7% year on year to 85.0 million mt, while India's rose 1.5% to 8.8 million mt.
Japan produced 8.6 million mt of crude steel, down 0.8%, while US production increased 7.3% to 7.4 million mt.
South Korea produced 6.0 million mt of crude steel up 1.4% on year, while Turkey's production rose 2.6% to 3.0 million mt.
Brazil's crude steel production for April was 2.9 million mt, down 1.9%. Ukraine produced 1.9 million mt, up 12.6%.
In the EU, Italian crude steel production was 2.0 million mt in April, down 5.7%, while France produced 1.3 million mt, a fall of 8.1%. Spain produced 1.3 million mt in April, down 4.4%, worldsteel said.
