The Council of European Energy Regulators launched a consultation Thursday looking into the worst case scenario of Europe failing to harmonize national support schemes for renewable energy.
The consultation addresses the existing differences between national support schemes in Europe and other "non-harmonized" areas of electricity markets.
The aim is to find out the impact these differences may have on investment decisions and on the functioning of national and European wholesale electricity markets, CEER said.
The consultation conclusions will feed into CEER's work in this area and, at a later stage, the European Commission's progress report required by the Renewables Directive, due on December 31, 2014, CEER said.
The deadline for online contributions is January 6, 2012.
CEER is a voluntary association of national energy regulators in Europe.
