In Brazil, November butadiene contract prices decreased 25 cents/lb ($500/mt) to $2,800/mt, a slip of 15% from October, a Braskem source said at the 31 APLA event in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In the US, November butadiene contract prices went down 25 cents/lb from October as well. Brazilian monomer contract prices usually follow USGC movements, with some days lag.
October's butadiene contract price in Brazil of $3,300/mt was down 10% from September.
In production, Braskem was undergoing a programmed shutdown for maintenance in its smallest steam cracker at the city of Triunfo, Rio Grande do Sul state.
The company has two crackers in the complex, and the one under turnaround is responsible for 40% of total olefins production, with a butadiene capacity of 106,000 mt/year.
The other Braskem cracker in the site was reported working normally this week.
The turnaround was expected to last at least 40 days.
"Everything is happening as we had planned, so we believe we are going to have the cracker back on line on the first week of December," added the source.
