World crude steel production in November was 5.8% higher year on year at 148.6 million mt, World Steel Association data showed Thursday.
Production in the first 11 months totaled 1.65 billion mt, up 4.7% year on year.
Chinese production continued to top the list in November, having increased 10.8% to 77.6 million mt. From January to November, China's production grew 6.7% to 857.34 million mt.
China closed most of its illegal induction furnaces in 2017, and the category was generally not captured previously in official statistics.
India maintained its position as second largest producer with 8.49 million mt in November, a drop of 1.3%.
Production in the EU increased 1.2% to 14.14 million mt in November, but declined slightly over January-November to 154.42 million mt.
Italy's crude steel output fell 1% to 2.19 million mt. Further drops in other countries, such as Germany (-2.9%), Spain (-0.7%) and the Netherlands (-2.2%), were offset by France's November production of 1.4 million mt, an increase of 12.8%.
Turkey's crude steel production was 3.1 million mt, a fall of 2.1%.
Brazil produced 2.8 million mt of crude steel last month, down 6.1%.
The CIS region produced 8.03 million mt, a drop of 5.9%.
Crude steel production in Ukraine was 1.7 million mt last month, down 11.2%.
The US produced 7.4 million mt of crude steel in November, an increase of 11.8% year on year.
