Mexican production of hot-rolled coil totaled 238,013 mt in August, up 9.1% from 218,159 mt in August 2017 and down 9.9% from July's 264,269 mt, the National Institute of Statistics (INEGI) said Wednesday.
HRC shipments totaled 208,603 mt, up 0.3% year on year and down 7% month on month, INEGI data showed.
Cold-rolled coil production totaled 97,471 mt in August, down 7.1% from 104,912 mt in August 2017 and up 10.8% from July's 87,969 mt.
CRC shipments totaled 88,041 mt, down 5.5% year on year, and up 15.1% month on month, INEGI said.
Mexico has seven steel producers: Ahmsa, Ternium Mexico and ArcelorMittal Lazaro Cardenas, focused in flats steel products; Deacero, Simec and Gerdau Corsa, focused in long steel products, and tube maker Tenaris Tamsa. Combined, they have installed capacity of 29.5 million mt/year of crude steel.
