Demand in Argentina's polypropylene market will fall by 12-13% in 2018 because of the ongoing economic woes facing the South American country, two sources with local producer PetroCuyo said Monday on the sidelines of the Latin American Petrochemical Association meetings in Cancun.
Domestic demand is expected to close the year around the 290,000 mt, with little to no growth expected in 2019, the sources said.
Petrocuyo is Argentina's sole PP producer, with a capacity estimated at 300,000 mt/year.
Export business to Argentina has been greatly reduced because of poor demand, said a source with Colombian producer Esenttia, which has in recent years expanded its presence in the country.
