CME Group's metals trading volume averaged 571,000 contracts/day in October, up 1% from 565,000 contracts/day in October 2017, the US exchange group said Friday.
Base metals futures and options average daily volume was up 6% year on year to 117,000 contracts, of which copper ADV was up 5% at 116,000 contracts.
Copper options open interest hit a record 37,000 contracts on October 24, while gold options ADV grew 43% year on year to 54,000 contracts, CME said.
CME's suite of metals products includes precious metals (gold, silver, platinum and palladium), base metals (copper, aluminum, aluminum alloy, alumina, zinc and lead) and ferrous metals (iron ore, ferrous scrap and hot rolled coil).
