JX Nippon Oil & Energy plans to shut its butadiene extraction unit at Kawasaki, eastern Japan, in mid-November for scheduled maintenance, a source close to the company said Friday.
Due to the turnaround, which will take about 10 days to complete, the company will not have any spot butadiene cargoes to offer in November.
However, the naphtha-fed steam cracker at the same location will continue to run.
The cracker, which can make 404,000 mt/year of ethylene and 260,000 mt/year of propylene, is currently operating at 80-90% of capacity, down from 100% in September.
