Global primary aluminum output rose 2.5% year-on-year to 5.3 million mt in September, International Aluminium Institute (IAI) data published Monday showed.
The figure was down 3.4% from 5.485 million mt in August, while on a daily basis production was marginally down month-on-month at 176,700 mt/day.
For the January-September period, world production was up 0.3% year-on-year at 48.022 million mt, from 47.86 million mt in the same period last year.
Chinese primary aluminum production in September was up 3.6% year-on-year but fell 3.5% month-on-month but.
For the period January-September, China produced 27.17 million mt of primary aluminum, down 0.7% year on year.
Production in Europe of 644,000 mt was up 0.8% year on year but down 3% on the month, while North American output of 310,000 mt was down 4.3% on the year and down 3.1% month-on-month.
In Asia ex-China, primary production was 6.4% higher from a year before, but down by 3.4% month-on-month at 364,000 mt.
In the Middle East, aluminum production was 8.2% higher year-on-year at 437,000 mt but decreased by 3.3% on the month from 452,000 mt in August.
