Mexican hot-rolled coil steel output totaled 285,416 mt in April, up 14.2% from 249,871 mt in April 2017 and up 3.4% from March's 276,162 mt, the National Institute of Statistics, or INEGI, said Tuesday.
That was the highest output figure registered in 2018 and 2017.
HRC shipments totaled 243,766 mt, up 7.8% year on year from 226,051 mt and down 6.6% month on month from 261,028 mt, the data show.
Cold-rolled coil production totaled 105,136 mt in April, down 2.5% from 107,830 mt in April 2017 and down 6.5% from March's 112,430 mt.
CRC shipments totaled 96,490 mt, up 1.9% year on year from 94,704 mt, but down 6.6% month on month from 103,300 mt, INEGI said.
Mexico has seven steel producers: Ahmsa, Ternium Mexico and ArcelorMittal Lazaro Cardenas, focused in flats steel products; Deacero, Simec and Gerdau Corsa, focused in long steel products, and tube maker Tenaris Tamsa. Combined, they have an installed capacity of 29.5 million mt/year of crude steel.
