China's Anhui Huasu started operations at a 460,000 mt/year PVC plant in Huabei, Anhui province on Sunday, the company said Monday.
The plant is part of a first phase of a larger project which will include units able to produce 560,000 mt/year of calcium carbide and 320,000 mt/year of caustic soda. These units will be completed by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, the company is planning a second-stage expansion, which will increase production capacities to 1 million mt/year of PVC, 1.4 million mt/year of calcium carbide and 760,000 mt/year of caustic soda. Construction for the second phase has already begun but the company was not able to provide an estimated completion time line.
When completed, Anhui Huasu said it will become the largest PVC producer in China, adding that it has invested Yuan 16 billion ($2.53 billion) in the project.
