Braskem plans to start a maintenance shutdown of its Triunfo steam cracker in Rio Grande do Sul state on October 26, said a company source.
The maintenance was expected to last at least 40 days. The cracker can produce approximately 1,252,000 mt/year of ethylene, 660,000 mt/year of propylene, and 106,000 mt/year of butadiene.
Due to the maintenance shutdown, the company should have some decrease in volumes for the export market, but we are working on inventories to attend the domestic market, added the source.
Braskem also plans to halt its polyethylene plants in Triunfo as a result of the upcoming cracker maintenance at the chemical complex.
According to the source, the company was also expecting to stop for maintenance the PE 5 plant and the PE 4 plant on different dates.
Braskem did not have concrete dates for when the maintenance on the two PE plants would begin, but it plans to halt PE 4 for 17 days at the end of the month.
PE 5 was expected to stop its three trains at different dates for 10 days each in November.
Braskem's 415,000 mt/year-capacity PE 5 plant produces LLDPE and HDPE. Its 550,000-mt/year PE 4 plant produces HDPE, LLDPE, and green polyethylene.
