Total Petrochemicals and Refining USA has issued a force majeure declaration on "impact copolymer polypropylene" produced at its La Porte, Texas, facility, according to a letter obtained Tuesday by S&P Global Platts.
The declaration stems from "a series of unplanned and external events that have impacted production levels," according to the Monday letter.
Total will implement an "allocation program" on associated shipments starting June 11, the letter states.
Total's facility in La Porte has a nameplate polypropylene capacity of 1.224 million mt/year, the result of three expansions following its acquisition from ARCO Chemicals in 1984, according to company records.
S&P Global Platts last assessed homopolymer injection-grade PP for export at $1,543-$1,565/mt FAS Houston Monday, stable day on day, but up $121/mt week on week.
PP pricing in the US has trended higher in recent weeks due in large part to rising feedstock propylene costs, according to sources.
