East Kentucky Power has agreed to purchase 93,000 st of 11,500 Btu/lb coal from River Trading Company for the utility's 1,371-MW Spurlock plant, according to a regulatory filing.
The Winchester, Kentucky-based generation and transmission co-op told the Kentucky Public Service Commission last week that deliveries will start on July 1 and continue through the end of this year.
All shipments will be loaded by Ingram Barge at Docks Creek Terminal on the Big Sandy River. The coal will originate from the Docks Creek River Terminal near Wayne, West Virginia.
Ten barges, or approximately 15,500 st, will be shipped monthly to Spurlock, and East Kentucky will pay 175.87 cents/MMBtu FOB barge for the coal.
Aside from the guaranteed heat rate of 11,500 Btu/lb, other specifications include maximums of 13% ash and 10% moisture and a maximum 6 lbs SO2/MMBtu. Grindability should be a minimum of 45 on the Hardgrove Scale.
The contract appears to have been signed off a recent East Kentucky request for proposals for up to 2.52 million st of contract coal for delivery to Spurlock.
