Turkey imported 237,841 mt of petcoke in April, up 14.5% on the year but down 54.8% on the month, according to customs data Thursday.
It was the largest month-on-month drop since S&P Global Platts began collecting the data in 2013.
The majority of imports were from the US at 173,895 mt. This is down 63% on the month but up 2% on the year.
Imports from Venezuela were 48,429 mt having been zero the previous month, but were up 84% on the year.
Imports of Spanish petcoke were 15,517 mt, down 70% on the month with no volumes registered for the year-ago month.
The large decline on the month coincides with the highest petcoke prices for several years.
According to the data, the average sales price of petcoke imports in April was $117.10/mt, the highest since Platts began collecting the data.
Platts CIF Turkey, 5% sulfur petcoke price averaged $112.25/mt in April, peaking at $113/mt for the first three weeks of the month -- the highest since Platts began the assessment in 2015
