Chevron Phillips Chemical reported flaring at a steam cracker located at its Baytown, Texas, facility, the company said Monday in a regulatory filing.
The unit began flaring Saturday night as a result of a cracked gas compressor shutdown, which caused venting to the flare, according to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality filing.
An emissions event associated with the upset ended Sunday night after the company restarted the compressor unit, the company said in the filing.
The company can produce 2.335 million mt/year of ethylene at its Cedar Bayou complex in Baytown.
A company spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment.
The event released 40,573 lbs of ethylene and smaller amounts of benzene, propylene, and butadiene.
In markets, S&P Global Platts last assessed spot ethylene Friday at 13.25-13.75 cents/lb FD USG for May deliveries and at 13.625-14.125 cents/lb FD USG for June deliveries.
