Swedish wind developers are forecast to add 2.5 GW of new onshore wind capacity this year and next bringing total installed capacity above 9 GW, according to the Swedish wind lobby group SWEA's quarterly report.
The group forecasts 815 MW for 2018, rising to 1.7 GW next year.
Some 2.6 GW of projects are currently under construction with another 8.8 GW in the permission process, slides for the report published April 20 show.
Swedish onshore wind costs have dropped sharply with the 650 MW Markbygden wind farm in northern Sweden described as Europe's first major subsidy-free onshore wind project.
Project developer Svevind plans to expand the project near the Arctic Circle to over 1,000 wind turbines with phase 1 already Europe's biggest onshore wind farm project.
The project with an estimated investment volume of almost $1 billion has been acquired by GE Energy Financial Services and Macquarie's Green Investment Group and has secured a PPA contract from aluminium maker Norsk Hydro.
Installed wind capacity in Sweden was 6.7 GW by end-March, according to the latest data from the lobby group.
