October Brazilian polyethylene offers to Colombia went down $80-90/mt over September becoming, at the moment, the most attractive ones in the Latin American market, said a buyer today.
Even though US offers dropped $100/mt, they were still too high to compete with the Brazilian ones.
The Brazilian HDPE film offer to Colombia was heard at $1,430/mt CFR while the American offer was $146/mt more expensive at $1,576/mt CFR Cartagena. An Asian resin offer to Colombia was at $1,550/mt CFR.
October Brazilian HDPE blow molding offer was at $1,450/mt CFR and the US was higher at $1,488/mt CFR.
For HDPE injection, offers from the US were pegged at $1,533/mt CFR against the Brazilian ones at $1,510/mt CFR.
In the Andean countries (Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador) bids for HDPE film were heard at $1,400/mt CFR, $1,390/mt CFR for blow molding and at $1,470/mt CFR for injection.
"Brazil has the cheaper offers in the market now, but this week we are still waiting for China to come back from the holiday because we heard that if the Chinese market is not buying strongly, Asian levels to Latin America could go down again," said the buyer.
According to the buyer, they could try to negotiate and try some deals with Brazil soon to balance inventories because the delivery time is shorter compared to Asia.
"At this time, customers are getting prepared for the end of the year festivities, and HDPE and LLDPE are the most demanded in the country," added the source.
