East Kentucky Power Cooperative is seeking proposals for up to 300,000 st of spot coal for delivery at its Spurlock power plant near Maysville, Kentucky, according to a solicitation issued Tuesday.
The utility is seeking spot deliveries of up to 100,000 st/month beginning May 1, for a term of up to three months.
The company's specifications for the coal include a minimum heat content of 11,000 Btu/lb, maximum ash content of 15% and maximum sulfur dioxide content of 7 lb SO2/MMBtu.
All proposals must be accompanied by a proximate analysis, including grindability, mineral/ash content, including trace elements, ultimate analysis, ash fusions and fouling factor calculations. All fuel options available to EKPC will be evaluated to determine the most economical fuel for future use.
The power plant, which includes two pulverized coal units with wet scrubbers, can receive coal by barge on the Ohio River at milepost 414.1 and by rail at Charleston Bottoms, Kentucky, via CSX Transportation or TTI Railroad.
Proposals must be received by 10 am EDT (1400 GMT) April 3 and must remain valid for at least 30 days.
