Sinopec has restarted a 1.5-mil-mt/yr residue hydrogenation unit at its Qilu Petchem in Shandong Province, according to a company source.
The unit caught a fire in the afternoon of Oct 9 because of feedstock leakage, C1 reported earlier.
"The fire was extinguished in an hour and operations were not affected much," said the source.
Qilu Petrochemical originally plans to shut the residue hydrogenation unit for 35 days of maintenance on Oct 20.
It is expected to process 900,000mt of crude in October, with daily throughput down by 3-4% from the normal level.
Qilu Petrochemical has a topping capacity of 10.5-mil mt per year. It mainly refines Shengli crude and sour crude from the Middle East.
