China imported 20.91 million mt of coal in February, including lignite, thermal and metallurgical material, falling 24.80% from January, but rising 18.27% year on year, according to preliminary data released Thursday by China's General Administration of Customs.
China imported 27.81 million mt of coal in January and 17.68 million mt of coal in February 2017.
Total imports for both January and February rose 14.4% year on year to 42.60 million mt. The country exported 0.468 million mt of coal in February, down 0.4% year on year, the data showed.
China exported 0.28 million mt of coal in January 2017 and 0.47 million mt in February of the same year. Overall exports for both January and February 2017 slumped 30.1% year on year to 0.75 million mt.
The GAC did not provide details of February's imports and exports. This will be available later this month.
