Brazil's imports of galvalume (aluminum/zinc-coated steel sheet) in February jumped 42.2% year on year to 12,089 mt, Ministry of Development and Foreign Trade data showed Wednesday.
These imports were valued at $9.07 million FOB, up 69.5% from $5.35 million FOB in February 2017. China was the main supplier last month, sending 10,964 mt (90.7% of the total) at an average of $759.59/mt FOB.
Total imports in 2018 reached 23,631 mt, down 34.3% from 35,997 mt imported in the same period last year. In monetary terms, imports fell 22.8% year over year to $17.21 million FOB from $22.29 million FOB.
The volume of exports in February 2018 reached 2,671 mt, down 83.6% from the 16,311 mt sent abroad in February 2017. These exports totaled $2.43 million FOB, down 82% from $13.48 million a year before.
Argentina was the main destination of these goods in February 2018, with 2,344 mt. The average price of the products sent to Argentina $904.59/mt FOB.
Considering the two first month of 2018, the volume exported totaled 10,952 mt, down 61.7% from 28,607 mt in the same period in 2017. The total exported was valued at $10.24 million FOB, down 56.2% from $23.39 million FOB over year.
