Chile imported 850,000 mt of coal in December, down from 4% from the same month of 2016 but up 29.7% from November, government data showed Thursday.
Colombia remained Chile's main coal supplier, shipping 425,000 mt in December, followed by Australia (309,000 mt) and the US (115,000 mt).
Imports for the full year totaled 11.1 million mt, up 1.2% from 2016.
The data also showed that Chile exported 169,000 mt during December, all of which was shipped to India by Mina Invierno, the country's only large-scale coal mine.
