January aluminum mill product orders in North America were up 21.2% from December and 6.9% from January 2017, according to the Aluminum Association.
Extruded product orders jumped 43.5% from December and 8.3% from a year earlier.
Foil orders were up 20.9% from December and 12.5% from the year-ago period.
January plate orders rose 19.4% month on month and 26.9% from a year earlier.
January orders of domestic can stock were up 11.4% from December and 5.4% from a year ago. Export can stock orders rose 17.8% from December and 1.4% from a year earlier, the group said.
Orders of heat treatable sheet increased 21.4% in January from December and were up 8% from the year earlier, while non-heat treatable sheet rose 19.8% from December and 3.1% from a year ago, the group said.
January drawing stock orders were up 11.7% month on month and up 3.8% from a year earlier.
The index is based on reports of new orders, minus cancellations, received by 23 participants for January, accounting for roughly 80%-85% of total industry shipments in the US and Canada.
